Why the name "Ask3"?

We spent the last two years observing great teachers. One of the phrases we heard repeatedly was "ask three, then me," where the teacher encouraged students to collaborate and take ownership of their learning.

How do teachers use Ask3?

• Teacher create a homework-help video to help students when they get home
• Teacher sends a video home as homework, thus freeing up class time to work on assignments in class
• Teacher assigns students to make a video, thus exposing what they know
• Students create a video to suggest a problem (and answer) that should be on the next exam
• Foreign language students take a photo and explain it verbally
• 6th graders make math videos for 5th graders
• By viewing today's comments and questions, teachers can know how to approach tomorrow's lesson

Is it safe for students?

We safeguard student privacy. We collect NO student emails and NO registration. Students are asked for their name, only so that comments and questions can be linked to an individual.

Are private conversations allowed?

No. In the future, we may allow private conversations if we see enough demand for them.

Who's it for?

Ask3 is for teachers and students with iPads. Ask3 enables them to share their knowledge and collaborate via threaded, video conversations.

Can I add my own videos?

Currently, Ask3 only allows you to share videos made from within Ask3. Pre-existing videos (e.g., from Snagit, Camtasia or YouTube) will be supported in a future release.

Can I add multiple classes?

In the current version, you can create one class.

Can I change classes?

Ask3 allows you to make one class, at present. Currently, you cannot change your class code or class name.

How much does it cost?

How long will it be free?

We have no hidden date nor hidden agenda. One of the benefits of running a successful software company for 20 years, is that we take the long-view on things. We can imagine a future in which we may charge for additional capabilities or storage. But, we won't know what's worth charging for until we hear from teachers and administrators.

Is there a limit to the content?

No, there is not.

How long can I record?

There is no length limitation. But, please be kind. Students don't want to watch 10+ minute videos.

Is an internet connection required?

Ask3 works best with a wifi connection, but supports offline viewing and commenting. Once you reconnect all your changes will be synced!

Where is the content stored?

Videos, comments and questions are all stored in TechSmith's Cloud, which utilizes US-based, Microsoft Azure services.

Can my content by viewed by other people?

Only people with your 5 digit class code can view and participate in the Ask3 conversations.

No, currently, the system is set up to share videos between members of a class via the iPad. Viewing content via a browser is on our to-do list.

How do I re-use videos from one semester to the next?

We will be working on this functionality. Users cannot yet re-use videos.
